Psycho Beach Party

September 23rd - October 14th
Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 2pm

by Charles Busch
Directed by Nicole Dominguez

Party till you drop...  Dead.

“Gidget”, Frankie and Annette beach party epics and Hitchcock psychological suspense thrillers are given a shotgun marriage. Chicklet Forrest, a teenage tomboy, desperately wants to be part of the surf crowd on Malibu Beach in 1962. One thing getting in her way is her unfortunate tendency towards split personalities. Among them is a black check out girl, an elderly radio talk show hostess, a male model named Steve and the accounting firm of Edelman and Edelman. Her most dangerous alter ego is a sexually voracious vixen named Ann Bowman who has nothing less than world domination on her mind.

Reviews

"Nona Watson... Delivers bravura work as Chicklet's dangerously psychotic mother while tapping directly into the script's campier aspects."

"Director Nicole Dominguez and her cast get the jokes, making sure we do too..."

"This oh-so-campy send-up gets its cue from two distinctive genres: frivolous 1960s beach movies and intense psychological suspense thrillers a la Hitchcock, parodying both styles while also paying them homage."

-Eric Marchese, OC Register

"Stages production of Psycho Beach Party receives a much needed injection of heart in the campy world of Charles Busch's play."

"The show is worth a trip to Fullerton!"

-Lauren Stone, LA Small Theater Review.

"Jon Gaw’s set is a simple but colorful, ingeniously designed wall of surfboard cutouts, some of which open to reveal Kanaka’s shack or Mrs. Forrest’s kitchen. Carly McNamee lights the stage with California sunshine and signals Chicket’s personality changes with Hitchcockian flashes of red. Costume/make-up designer Elise Ybarra’s outfits have just the right colorful ‘60s beach party look."
